John Wickley asked:
There are a few things that you can do not only to save yourself some money on your monthly bills or to add to the value of your home, but also to help the environment and ensure a brighter future. Planting trees around your home can significantly increase its value and when it comes time to sell you’ll be glad that you did. Particularly deciduous trees are an environmentally sound and cost effect source of natural energy because they can help cool and heat your home naturally.
In the summer time when their branches are full of leaves, they block out the sun, shielding your home from the extra heat and scaling back the electricity you spend on constantly running your air conditioners. Conversely, in the winter time, their branches are bare and allow the sun to naturally heat your home, cutting down on the energy used to power your heaters.
Adding value to your house and cutting down on your power bill doesn’t stop with trees. Much like using the sun to heat your home in the winter time, you can go one step further and actually harness that natural energy. Many people use solar panels on their roofs to absorb the sun and use this force to power their homes and appliances. Many people install these panels themselves, surely you’ve seen them when you’ve been driving around your neighborhood. They not only cut back on the monthly energy usage and subsequently the monthly power bill for a home, but they also increase the value of the home many times over for however much electricity you save.
